Research Overview
The Indigenous Knowledge and Image Lab is focused on advancing Indigenous-centered research, visual practice, and community-based archaeology. TIKIL prioritizes Indigenous knowledge, culture, and lived experience when studying, interpreting, and representing the past.
Using collaborative methods like Indigenous archaeology, public archaeology, and ethical practices, we partner with Indigenous communities to document, safeguard, and share cultural heritage in ways that align with community goals. TIKIL is also dedicated to training and mentoring students, nurturing ethical, community-engaged scholars and practitioners through hands-on research, collaborative learning, and public outreach. By combining accessible scholarship, active public engagement, and ethical visual and archaeological methods, the Lab aims to advance education and advocacy.
